Steven Schowengerdt, CEO
Steven was born and raised amongst a family of ten in the Kansas City community. Steven built a painting company and an advertising company previous to Lifestyle Publications. Selling those businesses in 2009, Steven wanted to embark on a new adventure. Understanding the importance of God and family, Steven saw an opportunity to produce a publication that could bring the good news and informative, local stories to build both families and their community. As the founder and CEO of Lifestyle Publications, Steven is responsible for the overall direction of the company.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Matthew graduated from the University of Evansville with a combined degree in Chemistry and Business. After serving 10+ years in the chemical industry, Matthew moved to Kansas City in 1999 to help build a local business in the chemical search engine industry. Over the next ten years, Matthew played a key role as part of the Executive team and leading the sales and marketing efforts in North America. By the time he left, the company had locations in Kansas City, China, and Germany and more than 60 employees. In May 2010, Matthew became a partner with Steven Schowengerdt in Lifestyle Publications. Matthew now leads the Account Managers in Kansas City and plays a key role in developing business strategies, and the overall sales development.
DeLand is responsible for the financial and legal aspects of Lifestyle’s operations. He studied business at MidAmerica Nazarene University and law at the University of Kansas School of Law. DeLand joined the Lifestyle team in 2013 after 11 years in the nonprofit sector.
BRAD BROOCKERD, Marketing Director
Born and raised in Kansas City, Brad is a University of Kansas graduate. He is responsible for taking all production design in house and has helped Lifestyle Publications grow and produce dozens of magazines to date. He currently directs a team of 12 amazing designers and coders that produce all of the creative for Lifestyle Publications. Brad has a strong marketing background and has worked with many Fortune 500 companies throughout his career. Brad coined the tagline, Inspired By Community. He is a father of four amazing kids and has a beautiful wife of 19 years. He coaches three of his boy’s soccer teams and plays as well in a men’s league. Fun is the key factor in everything that Brad instills at Lifestyle Publications. “Bringing the joy and fun of the community to the people we serve is an amazing opportunity”.
Michael O'Connell, Applications Architect
Michael was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, and received a bachelors degree in Management Information Systems from University of Illinois in 2002 before moving to Kansas City in 2003 to work for a large health care software company. Michael started working with Lifestyle Publications as an independent contractor in 2012 and joined full time in 2014. Michael is responsible for all things technical at Lifestyle including developing our internal software and websites.
Donald Hawkins, National Sales Director
Prior to joining Lifestyle Publications, Donald was the founding partner of a healthcare-based branding & advertising agency along with several other ventures spanning the HealthIT, fashion, and retail industries. Donald is a native of Albany, GA and a graduate of Georgia State University. He also was the publisher of 4 successful publications in Georgia, Tennessee, and California through Lifestyle Publications before being offered the position of National Sales Director. As National Sales Director, Donald is now tasked with the sales development, support, and overall growth of all Lifestyle Publications' publishers nation-wide. In addition to his role at Lifestyle Publications, Donald has a passion for mentoring teens through organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of America and the YMCA.
Michelle Willis, Director of New Business Development
A Florida native, Michelle Taylor Willis holds a B.S. in Advertising from the University of Florida, with an expansive career covering more than twenty years of sales recognition and leadership with Fortune 500 companies. Her range of expertise spans from the areas of construction, telecommunications, medical, and most recently, publishing. Seen as a highly focused business leader with proven success in selling, training and development, and leadership, Michelle has addressed leadership groups and business associations about leading and empowering. Having previously published two magazines with Lifestyle Publications, Michelle is now tasked with leading the launch effort to enhance the national footprint for the company. Michelle is on the advisory boards for the United Way and Boy Scouts, and is active on several other boards in the Atlanta area. Michelle is a wife and mother of four boys.
JIM KELLY, Director of Recruiting
A lifelong resident of the Chicagoland area, Jim graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Business and Marketing. He is also a former United States Marine Corps Sergeant with a deployment overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jim has spent his entire business career in sales and leadership roles in various industries and markets.  He is currently our Director of Recruiting and Central Regional Director of Sales and Development. His major role is aiding in the success of current publishers and running the Recruitment team to ensure Lifestyle Publications has the best talent in the industry. Jim has been associated with Lifestyle Publications since 2012 as a Consultant and fully employed since 2014 as part of the Executive team.
