The Beato Goes to Brazil book launch party was at the Consulate of Brazil in Atlanta. Mr. Kaupert told the audience how excited the consulate was to see a children's book about a traveling cat going to Brazil. Samba was performed by the Fogo Brasil group and there was a talk by Atlanta-based author Sucheta Rawal.

Smyrna’s Wolfe Adult Recreation Center Members Go Interesting Places

Members of Smyrna’s Wolfe Adult Recreation Center took a wonderful tour of fascinating places this past August. Some of the highlights include tours of the Thronateeksa Heritage, Science and Discovery Museum, Albany Civil Rights Institute, Flowers Heritage Museum 100 years of Baking Exhibit, the Dillion Candy Factory and the Taste of Thomasville Food Tour.

Piedmont Urgent Care by WellStreet opened a state-of-the-art center in Smyrna at 1155 Concord Road, Suite 200. They treat minor injuries and illnesses; offer on-site diagnostic imaging services; in-house medication dispensary; and accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid and competitive self-pay rates. Open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekends.  

OrangeTheory Smyrna Raises Awareness, Funds for Rett Syndrome

OrangeTheory's co-owner Kimberly Fishman has a daughter (Emily) with Rett Syndrome. She and her sister Julie Stewart (co-owner) along with the staff and community of Smyrna Vinings spent the day working out for a cause. Everyone came out to support and encourage Emily. Way to go, OrangeTheory, as well as many of the businesses in the community!

Atlanta Regional Polo Center

The Atlanta Regional Polo Center will be having polo practice from 6 to 8 p.m., every Wednesday until the end of October. The club is located Vinings on Polo Lane. Surrounded by acres of manicured grounds, an incredible polo field and featuring more than 60 playing members, the club is by far the premier polo club in Georgia.

Public House at Hotel Indigo Vinings Hosts “Spirited” Dinner

The Public House at the Hotel Indigo Vinings hosts a monthly Spirited Dinner—not your usual wine dinner—to discuss whether your riesling has an essence of gasoline. This dinner is a real dinner party, with an in-house chef and mixologist. It's an intimate group of 16, so grab an invite if you can!

The Vinings Village Civic Club continued its long tradition of hosting candidate forums before the primary elections. An overflowing crowd attended the forum at the Cochise Club in May to hear presentations by district candidates.

Omni Hotel Ribbon-Cutting

Omni Hotels & Resorts and the Atlanta Braves commemorated the opening of the Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta with a ribbon-cutting celebration. The official hotel of the Atlanta Braves is located at The Battery Atlanta, the city’s newest mixed-use complex and home to SunTrust Park, the Coca-Cola Roxy, shopping, dining and office space.

Christmas at Brawner

Christmas at Brawner Hall was held December 15 and featured holiday treats, hay "sleigh" rides, children's activities, Dickens carolers, a Christmas movie and visits with Santa. Admission was one new or gently-used coat, and the event collected approximately 150 coats that were donated to the Smyrna location of MUST Ministries.

The Reed House

Smyrna and the Taylor-Brawner House Foundation held the fourth annual Taylor-Brawner Park with Art fine art exhibit and sale October 6-15 at the Taylor-Brawner House. This annual event included more than two dozen of the region’s most accomplished artists. A popular silent auction was conducted during the opening night reception. 

Casper’s Friendly Fall Festival

Casper's Friendly Fall Festival had carnival games, inflatables, a hayride, crafts and much more. It was open to children up to 12 years old and their families and took place around the fountain in front of the Smyrna Community Center and on the Veterans Memorial lawn.

Smyrna Little League’s Rookie Blue All-Star Team

For the second time in three years, Smyrna Little League’s Rookie Blue All-Star team has been crowned state champions in the 
Rookie Baseball Tournament, which was created in 2013 for 7- and 8-year-olds. The Smyrna team won with a final score of 8-2.

WellStar Foundation Gala Raises $800K for Trauma Services

The WellStar Foundation raised more than $800,000 during the first private event at The Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre in the Battery Atlanta adjacent to SunTrust Park. The Roxy was transformed into an elegant 600-person ballroom where business leaders and community philanthropists gathered for the annual event benefiting vital trauma services for WellStar Health System.

The City of Smyrna held the 3rd annual Christmas at Brawner. High school volunteers and city employees provided games, crafts, hay rides, cookie decorating, s'mores, balloon twisting, holiday music and train rides to see Santa.
