With the arrival of warmer temperatures, the desire for road trips and vacations intensifies. Sadly, work and school schedules don’t always allow for out of town trips. However, there is no need to brave the bustling airport or gas up the car – Smyrna-Vinings offers plenty of amazing activities right within its own borders!

Stay: Hotel Indigo Atlanta – vinings

Start a staycation right by checking into one of Hotel Indigo’s luxurious rooms. Just off Paces Ferry Road in the heart of Vinings, Hotel Indigo was recently opened to great fanfare and is in the perfect location for a relaxing staycation. Rooms are modern and comfortable, with large pieces of artwork and spa-like bathrooms. Enjoy a relaxing dip in the pool or make use of the in-house fitness center. Finish by enjoying dinner at The Public House at Vinings, located inside the hotel, which offers elevated southern comfort food.

See: Cobb Energy Centre

Aside from being a key location in Season 1 of The Walking Dead, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre provides plenty of options for a staycation. Both the Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Ballet call the Cobb Energy Centre home and perform shows each month. Additionally, numerous Broadway productions and concerts fill the calendar, providing something for everyone, including entertainment for both families and adults.

Go: Silver Comet Trail

Spend a sunny afternoon walking, biking, or rollerblading down the Silver Comet Trail, one of the area’s favorite outdoor spots.  The trail is 61.5 miles long and travels from Smyrna to the Alabama line! The trail yields an impressive display of native wildlife and vegetation, bodies of water, and historic areas. There are also picnic areas and a playground at the trail head in Smyrna.

Play: Main Event

After a full day in the sun, heading inside might be a good idea. Main Event Atlanta on Cobb Parkway provides hours of fun for the entire family. It offers bowling, billiards, a gravity ropes course, laser tag, and a plethora of video games. Take a break from playing and have a drink from their extensive menu or enjoy a casual meal in their open concept dining room. The options are endless, as is the fun.

Eat: Food Truck Tuesdays

Visiting Food Truck Tuesdays and Taylor-Brawner Park would be a great inclusion into a Smyrna-Vinings staycation. Starting in May, every Tuesday food trucks from all over the city convene in the park and provide visitors with delicious and unique food options. Bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs, snag some small bites (or something larger) from each truck, and then lay back and watch the stars come out while listening to some incredible live music. And since this is a vacation, stay out a little later. What better way is there to spend a summer night?

From delicious food to amazing outdoor spaces, luxurious hotels to exciting concerts, the Smyrna-Vinings area is filled with ideas for a perfect staycation. Who needs the beach?
