Connecting With That Peaceful Place Inside

Slow down. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes and feel your body. Notice the movement of energy pulsing through your physical frame. It’s not just your heart pumping, it’s energy. Einstein said, “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.” Energy is everywhere and its expressed in infinite forms. We are all made of this energy. In that, we are the same.

Have you ever considered that this energy you sense is really your home?

You are a unique expression of this ever-present energy. You are not only connected to the energy that is everywhere, this energy is you! Over time as I have developed and expanded my relationship with this belief, I have found it to be a constant source of peace.

If you are a meditator, you may already know what I am talking about. If you’re not, would you consider giving a try to develop a stronger connection with this energy inside you? Would you give it a try if you knew it could feel as good as being in the arms of your lover, or your mother? Would you give it a try in exchange for deeps feeling of, safety, compassion and peace? For the feeling of coming home, would you give it a try?

Pick a word you appreciate. You can choose the word love or peace or even Om, if you really want to feel like a yogi. Sit still in a comfortable position to support your spine and keep your back upright. Close your eyes. Breathe. Silently chant your word inwardly to yourself – there is no rush. Slowly and patiently repeat your chant. When you catch yourself thinking about the shopping list or the kids or what you’re going to make for dinner tonight, just gently come back to your word. While you’re doing this, keep breathing. Hold the intention that your breath is the life force bringing this energy into your physical body.

Three and a half years ago I recalled a prophetic dream that alerted me to a cancerous tumor in my breast. I attribute this to my meditation practice, which quite literally saved my life. Meditation provides a tangible reference point to the foundation of calm that is always in me. When life throws things my way (which is life’s job, right?) I have a deep well of tranquility that I can drink from. I’m very familiar with the peace that lives inside of me and because of my established connection to this feeling, the day flows with grace and ease.

Give it a try. Meditate for five minutes. Take this supportive action to bring a sense of well-being into your physical and spiritual being. Be warned, you may experience sensations of calmness and peacefulness. You may feel like you are coming home.
