Preserving Castle Rock History Through Art
In an exceptional effort to preserve Castle Rock history, the Castle Rock Historic Preservation Board and the Public Art Commission have joined forces to sponsor a painting of the Castle Rock Museum by local artist Cindy Welch. Constructed in 1875 from rhyolite quarried in Castle Rock, this museum was once a depot for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. Longtime resident and watercolor artist Cindy Welch debuted the watercolor painting at the opening of the Continental Divide Raceways exhibit May 18 at Castle Rock Museum, where it will be on permanent display. Postcard prints and limited edition prints signed by the artist can be purchased at the Castle Rock Museum, with Cindy donating 10 percent of those sales back to the museum. The Historic Preservation Board works to protect and preserve the history of Castle Rock through recommendations to Town Council for designation of historic structures as landmarks. The Public Art Commission identifies priorities and goals concerning the acquisition of art for public buildings and parks within the Town of Castle Rock. Visit CastleRockHistoricalSociety.org.
